Just about every Saturday I’m amazed by the tone of some of the letters to the editor in the weekend edition. I think the Sun-Gazette must have a quota of at least one letter from someone who in my opinion is an unhinged Trump supporter.
In the Aug. 14 edition some lady from Montoursville explained that in order to be a patriot one had to vote for Republicans. I believe there are patriots from all parties who want what is best for this country. To her the only time there were real men who cared about this country was 1776, 1865, 1917 and 1945. In all of those years we were involved in wars. What about the men who fought in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other wars we were involved in. Were they not real men (and women)? Do we have to be in a war to recognize the people who advance our nation?
In the Aug. 21 edition a letter from a man in Jersey Shore informed me that the Democrats are going to confiscate all my firearms. I have never heard a Democrat say that they want to confiscate ALL my firearms. This is just a NRA talking point to rile up the 2nd Amendment crowd. He also stated that he heard “that the IRS has secretly stockpiled millions of rounds of ammunition and thousands of assault rifles”. To put out such outlandish statements without proof is how we have gotten into the present predicament.
Finally in the Aug 28th edition, there was a letter from two people who apparently can’t write a letter by themselves. Their first complaint was how long the FBI spent at Mar-a-logo serving a search warrant, not a raid. They claim this was a fishing expedition. I want to take the FBI fishing with me, so I could catch something. The list of what they recovered was 103 classified documents, 27 of which were in Trump’s office, 11000+ pages of government documents and 45 empty folders marked classified.
