Laura Ethel McCourt, age 96, died April 4, 2022, at Mitchell’s Nursing Home in Danville.
She was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Waveland to the late Jonathan “Dick” and Annie Rogers Davis. After graduating from Havana High School in 1944, she joined her sister Lillian Pearce in California to work as a welder on American ships during World War II. She was a hairdresser for almost 70 years, a member and avid worker in the Danville United Methodist Church. She also served many stations in Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fearl C. Frederick and Billy Joe McCourt; brother, Jonathan W. Davis; sisters, Sallie Lucas, Lila Foster, Evelyn Ryan and Lillian Pearce.
Survivors include her daughters, Patsy and Harold Robinson, Sharon and Eddy Bruce; step-daughters, Deloris and Charlie Buchanan, and Kathy Martin and their children; grandchildren, Amy and Jeremy Hall and children, Bennett and Greyson, Melissa and Ross Moudy and children Karsyn and Eli, Scott and Rachel Robinson and son, Parker; lifelong friend, Bonnie Shoemaker; sister-in-law, Alma McCourt; and brother-in-law, John McCourt; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Danville United Methodist Church with Bro. Tom Sullinger and Dr. Elton Cleveland. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. before service at the church. Burial will be at Moores Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Steve Davis, Garry Hancock, Mike Lewis, Ryan Davis, Ross Moudy and Jeremy Hall.
