Now the suspect, who is believed to have several weapons with him, is barricaded in a home, Houston Police Officers’ Union President Douglas Griffith said.
Authorities say the violence unfolded after officers responded to a disturbance call, which ended in a chase.
When the chase ended, the subsequent gun battle was caught on security camera and shown on ABC13.
Riley Hollister, a witness to the shooting, told the news station he heard multiple gunshots, “more than 30 rounds or something.”
“I was doing a little walk, working on my knee and I heard all those gunshots and sirens.”
The latest shooting came just four days after Corporal Charles Galloway of Harris County Constable Precinct 5 was fatally shot during a traffic stop.
Oscar Rosales was later taken into custody by Mexican authorities in Ciudad Acuña, across the border from Del Rio, Texas.
The suspect was returned to the Houston area on Wednesday night.
Mr Rosales, 50, had entered the US illegally, according to a spokesperson for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
