RICHARDSON, Texas (February 28, 2022) – For the sixth time this season, Lubbock Christian University senior forward Parker Hicks has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
This is the final week of LSC awards for the 2021-22 season with playoffs starting this week. It is the sixth time this season Hicks has been named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, and he also claimed one Offensive Player of the Week award this season.
Hicks averaged a double-double last week and anchored an LCU defense that held Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico to a combined 37.0 percent shooting. He notched his 12th and 13th double-doubles of the season in wins over Eastern New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico. Hicks now has a double-double in five straight games, and 18 of his 21 rebounds on the week came on the defensive glass. He also led the team in scoring with an average of 18.0 points per game and added three blocks.
This season, Hicks is averaging 19.6 points per game on 55.8 percent shooting. He also averages 8.9 rebounds per game and has added in 61 assists, 26 blocks and 23 steals. Along with his seven LSC Player of the Week awards, Hicks has earned one D2CIDA National Player of the Week award this season. He is also one of 50 players remaining on the watch list for the Bevo Francis Award, which is presented annually to the best player in small college basketball.
Lubbock Christian claimed the LSC regular season title for the second straight season earlier this week and will play in the league’s tournament as the No. 1 seed this weekend. The Chaps’ first game at the tournament is at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. They will take on the winner of the matchup between St. Edward’s and Arkansas-Fort Smith.
