The city will replace residents’ invasive plants with a native tree or shrub for free.

To help stop the spread of invasive plants, the city of Fayetteville will replace residents’ invasive plants with a native tree or shrub for free.Fayetteville’s fourth annual invasive plant “bounty” program aims to increase awareness and discourage the spread of these invasive plants. The city will give away one native tree or shrub to each person that removes Bradford pear trees, bush honeysuckle, tree of heaven or Chinese privet on their property within city limits. John Scott, the urban forester for the city, said invasive plants pose many problems to the environment. “Invasive plants have a lot of aggressive tendencies, so they out-compete other plants,” Scott said.
