Almost 3 Years Since 1st Dispensary Opens, 76,000 Pounds Of Medical Marijuana Purchased

As Arkansas approaches the third anniversary of the opening of the first medical marijuana dispensary in the state, a recent report sheds light on how the industry has taken shape.

A number of milestones are reflected in the most recent report from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration including

* Overall, patients have purchased more than 76,000 pounds of cannabis since the first dispensary opened in May 2019.

* Local dispensary Plant Family Therapeutics of Mountain Home, despite opening just two years ago, has emerged as a consistently top seller. While it ranked as the fourth highest in the state in sales for the year 2021, having sold 2,596 pounds. In the most recent report for January, the local dispensary ranked sixth, with sales of 199 pounds;

* For the month of January, medical marijuana patients spent $20.53 million at the state’s 37 dispensaries to obtain 3,731 pounds of cannabis;

* With state tax collection of $2.84 million in January, overall tax collection from the medical marijuana industry has surpassed $60 million. A total of $60.19 million has been collected since mid-2019. This includes collection from the regular state sales tax of 6.5%, along with the 4.0% privilege tax. Both taxes apply to every patient purchase, while only the 4.0% tax applies to sales from cultivators to dispensaries.

* The Arkansas Department of Health reports 82,696 active Medical Marijuana Registry Identification Cards. The cards allow patients to purchase a limited amount of cannabis legally.

• The Source (Bentonville, opened Aug. 15, 2019) sold 104.23 pounds;

• Acanza (Fayetteville, opened Sept. 14, 2019) sold 191.44 pounds;

• Harvest (Conway, opened Oct. 11, 2019) sold 166 pounds;

• Purspirit Cannabis (Fayetteville, opened Nov. 20, 2019) sold 142.04 pounds;

• NEA Full Spectrum (Brookland, opened Dec. 9, 2019) sold 150.89 pounds;

• 420 Dispensary (Russellville, opened Dec. 17, 2019) sold 31.74 pounds;

• Fort Cannabis (Fort Smith, opened Dec. 18, 2019) sold 97.13 pounds;

• Red River Remedy (Texarkana, opened Jan. 10, 2020) sold 64.01 pounds;

• Bloom Medicinals (Texarkana, opened Jan. 15, 2020) sold 20.25 pounds;

• Plant Family Therapeutics (Mountain Home, opened Feb. 3, 2020) sold 198.97 pounds;

• Good Day Farm Little Rock (Little Rock, opened Feb. 14, 2020) sold 91.08 pounds;

• Curaleaf (Little Rock, opened Feb. 26, 2020) sold 50.20 pounds:

• CROP (Jonesboro, opened Sept. 21, 2021) sold 221.39 pounds.
